Role Description

RSS is looking for graduating university students with concentrations in Economics and Business Disciplines to join our growing Sales & Marketing team. We offer a unique career opportunity in the High-Tech industry to develop a competency in consultative sales, a multidisciplinary function that integrates sales and marketing with business analysis. At RSS, this job function is called Market Development because we leverage consultative selling techniques to develop new business opportunities in RSS’ target markets.

The RSS Market Development team initiates relationships with target companies with the objective of educating them on RSS’ product and services offerings as well as assessing the potential to ultimately sell our sophisticated software products and services to them. RSS’ customers include Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Hasbro, British Broadcasting Company (BBC), Thomson Reuters, and many other market leaders. RSS’ Market Development team members are responsible for identifying potential sales opportunities in our target markets, engaging target customers in multi-stage business discussions, and adeptly positioning RSS’ software products and services based on consultative analysis of each customer’s unique needs.

RSS is specifically looking to hire Market Development Associates who will develop and execute on market coverage strategies and prospecting programs, including direct prospect outreach and other communication programs. This role is rewarding to those who enjoy direct customer contact, opportunities for travel, delivering both formal and informal presentations, and the exciting pace of a growing company. Common attributes of successful Market Development Associates include being a ‘self-starter,’ possessing strong analytical skills, and being an excellent communicator. Desired Knowledge/Skills:

  • Interest in the intellectual property licensing market.
  • Aptitude for positioning complex / high-value products or solutions.
  • Aptitude for structured and systematic market analysis and pro-active prospecting.
  • Competitive strategy acumen and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English (including ability to present to senior audiences); aptitude for executive-level communication.
  • Additional European language(s) a plus, preferably French and/or German.

Responsibilities include:

  • Directly impact RSS’ top-line. Responsible for building and executing on RSS market coverage and prospecting programs through collaboration with RSS senior managers.
  • Actively define market coverage strategies for designated industries and execute on plan through direct and in-direct prospecting and marketing programs (direct prospect outreach/calling, e-mail/letter campaigns, advertising, tradeshows, etc.).
  • Coordinate and lead introductory discussions and meetings; engage in consultative discussions related to customer requirements; and facilitate initial software demonstrations.
  • Attend conferences and tradeshows for purposes of spreading market awareness, gathering business intelligence and initiating relationships with potential customer or industry contacts.
  • Research and assess market potential for new solutions into existing or new market segments.
  • Moderate travel within Europe and occasional travel to RSS offices in the US (Los Angeles; Boston).
